Hello!

I’m Xubi. I love being with the people that come to Santiago. They say I have a cheerful and supportive nature…

My name, Xubi, comes from the Galician word Xúbilo, it means happiness; and this great happiness is the same that everybody feels when they arrive at Santiago.

My image is a result of merging two of the most typical resources that the heroic ancient pilgrims would take with them during the Way, the walking stick and the pumpkin. They used the walking stick to help and protect themselves, and the pumpkin to quench their thirst.

For that reason, I’m an artistic interpretation of those two old symbols of the Way of St. James – Whew! This sounds too serious! – What a responsibility! Well, as you can see, there’s also an artist inside me.

I was born in Santiago’s 2010 Holy Year – a time of hope and celebration - as well as the happiness that the pilgrims will be waiting for in 2011, when the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, the friendliest basilica in the world, will celebrate its 800th anniversary.

At Santiago’s finishing point, I always make new friends; I have new hopes, new reasons for coming back and walk the Way. Because I know, no matter how hard I try to find, my steps will always lead me to Compostela.
